Bed Stuy Alive! Street Festival Is Decidedly Different

The street festival played on Fulton Street between Marcy and Brooklyn Avenues, Saturday, October 11, from 9:00 am to 5:30 PM. Vendors fascinated shoppers with their decidedly distinctive wares. Beauloni Headpieces and Accessories sold beautiful tiaras made of freshwater pearls crystal, cowry shell and beads. Kids enjoyed the Parks Department’s mobile unit. They played with Playstation Dance Revolution, Nok Hockey, and Wii Sports.
Rather than rap or gospel, Co-emcee and president of Black Rock Coalition Laronda Davis introduced such rock bands as ’68, Funk Face, and Faith. While the neighborhood had mixed reactions to the rock guitar and vocals, People like WBAI’s Esther Armah were in a deep groove. Can this music be the beat of the community’s changing socio-demographics?
